Office of the Select Board
Town of Orange, New Hampshire
Minutes of May 22, 2014
Present: Betty Fulton, Chair; Bob Ells, Patricia Mercer, and Sandi Pierson (clerical).
Others present: Kathy Stacy, George and Pat White, Bev Ells, Laurie and Scott Sanborn, Henry Minasian, Sophie Seace, and Dave Como.
Meeting opened at 6:30 PM. Attendance taken by the secretary.
This was a special meeting regarding the vacancy for an Orange representive to the Mascoma School Board upon the resignation of Charlie Sova. The duration of an appointment by the Selectmen would be until March 2015 at which time the position would be on the school district ballot.
Betty Fulton requested that any person interested in the position to speak on their qualifications and why they seek the position. Select Board member Pat Mercer stepped down from the Board at this time because she was interested in filling the position.
Kathleen Stacy and Patricia Mercer presented to the Board the experience, qualifications, and objectives they would bring to the school board if appointed. [See attached]
After reviewing the credentials of each candidate, Bob motioned to appoint Kathy Stacy to fill the school board vacancy. Betty Fulton seconded. Motion passed in favor.
Pat Mercer rejoined the Board.
Public comment: The Board entertained and took public comment. Parties that spoke are welcome to submit their comments and attach them to the minutes for public review.
In other business, Sandi distributed copies to each Board member the response from Attorney Shawn Tanguay (from Bernie Waugh’s office) to Fairpoint’s abatement application, Avitar’s response to Fairpoint’s abatement application, and the pole licensing update. The attorney’s response will be on the May 27 agenda. Sandi also distributed the most recent Community Action Report from the DRA.
Meeting adjourned 7:00 PM
Respectfully submitted, Sandi Pierson
