Minutes of February 11, 2014
Present: Dorothy Behlen Heinrichs (chaired the meeting), Betty Fulton, Bob Ells, and Sandi Pierson (clerical).
Others present: George White, Scott Sanborn, and Henry Minasian. Meeting opened at 7 PM. Attendance taken by the secretary.
The minutes of January 28, 2014 were unanimously accepted as submitted.
Software: The Board discussed the purchase of Microsoft software for the town clerk’s new computer and for the proposed purchase of computer in the Selectmen’s office. It was affirmed that the present 2010 Microsoft Office program presently on the Selectmen’s computer is a one- seat license and cannot be shared with other computers in the building. When a new computer is purchased for the Selectmen’s office, it is anticipated that the existing one will replace the one in the meeting room. Henry Minasian stated he did an internet search on the best value on the purchase of Microsoft 2010 and found them for $149 each. He also emailed the town a number of computer suggestions for the Selectmen’s office proposed computer within the anticipated price range. Henry said he would be happy to offer computer support during the purchase and rotation of the computers. The Board thanked Henry for his assistance.
Lighting: The Board reviewed quotes from Bruce Dickinson d/b/a BMD Electric, LLC of Canaan for the installation of lighting at the town house.
- The Board approved a quote of $220 for a replacement LED yard light on the outside of the front of the building. The present yard light is nonfunctional.
- The Board approved a quote of $1050 for the installation in the interior of the Town House of four combination exits and emergency lighting in the conduits on the ceiling as required by code. Included in the quote is a motion sensory light switch in the men’s room that will operate automatically when in use.
Warrant to Collect Yield Taxes: The Board signed a corrected Yield Tax Warrant for Wayne Berardi. The amount of $2,404.66 was corrected to $2,351.09 due to a clerical error.
Trash report: January totals were 7.38 tons of trash and 2.56 tons of recyclables. As of February 7th, the totals are 8.58 tons of trash and 3.03 tons of recyclables.
Other:
- Due to voting, the Select Board will meet on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 7 PM instead of March 11.
- A notice was received from the State that they have deposited the January Block Grant payment of $5,520.47 into the town’s account.
Secretary’s report:
- Mark Stetson from Avitar will be doing the assessing work for Orange. He will attend a Selectmen’s meeting for an introductory visit.
- County Commissioner Martha Richards will attend the February 25, 2014 meeting for informational purposes.
- The Board concurred that Sandi should purchase an indoor/oudoor rug for in front of the Selectmen’s office door.
Public comment: The Board entertained and took public comment. Parties that spoke are welcome to submit their comments and attach them to the minutes for public review.
